On the 2nd of
August, Rtn Veronica, Rtn Rajesh, Rtn Shivkumar and Rtn Siddharth celebrated
Rakshabandhan with the students the Hamara School for Street Children
located at St. Inez, Panaji and. They explained the significance of tying of a rakhi
(sacred thread) by a sister on her brother's wrist. Stories of a sister's love
and prayers for her brother's well-being, and the brother's lifelong vow to
protect her were narrated. The idea was to encourage family values, feelings of
brotherhood and peace. Rtn Veronica served homemade Kheer and sweets. RC
Riviera members distributed drawing books, colour pencils and crayons to the

COMPETITION FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN |
On the 9th
of August, Riviera members partook in Gokulashtami Celebrations at the Keshav Seva
Sadhana School for special children at Bicholim. The students were dressed
up as Radha and Kanhaiya. They presented wonderful dances and songs related to
Gokulashtami. Rtn Shivkumar Joshi narrated how the concept of Dahi Handi
originated. There was held a competition of Radhas and Kanhaiyas. Rtn Veronica
and Rtn Bhakti judged the competition and in addition to the first and second
prizes, they sponsored four special prizes of Rs. 500 each.
The
Keshav Seva Sadhana School is our adopted school and we have completed several
matching grant projects for the special children of this school. Pictures of

PATRIOTISM
IN ROTARY FAMILIES - 11/8/2012
On
the 11th of August, Rtn Yogish and Rtn Madhavi led the Riviera
Team to participate in the All Goa Rotary Patriotic Song Singing Competition,
held at the Museum Hall, Patto, Panaji – Goa. We won the sixth place. The
Riviera team was composed of Rtn Yogish Kulkarni, Rtn Madhavi Shetye, Rtn
Meghana Sawardekar, Ann Shital Melvani, RtnNeeraj Shukla, Rtn Shivkumar Joshi,
and Rtn Raghu Shetiya. It was gratifying to watch members of various Rotary
clubs in Goa attending this function and cheering their team members. The snaps

EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR COLLEGE YOUTH |
On the 14th of August, Rtn. Pallavi served as Chief Guest at the installation ceremony of the
students’ council of Narayan Zantye College, Bicholim. On this occasion, educational
scholarships were distributed by Rtn Pallavi
Salgaonker, Rtn Rajesh Salgaonker and President Rtn Siddharth Zantye to
nine needy students. sponsored nine students each.
Eight students were sponsored by the Bicholim Urban Cooperative Bank. Rtn Angad Singh has committed to sponsor ten students. This
takes the total students awarded educational scholarships to 27. RC Panaji Riviera
has awarded sponsorships to the tune of Rs 90,000/-. Rtn
Pallavi, Rtn Rajesh and Rtn Siddharth met the students and had a
discussion regarding their future endeavours. Rtn Rajesh, who is also a
District Officer for New Generations, announced a cash prize and a
trophy for two outstanding students of the year, in the name of his late
father. The outstanding girl and outstanding boy will each receive a trophy and
cash of Rs 2500/-.

On the the 14th of August, a drawing competition was organized for the 40 children studying in the Saraswati Vidyalaya Government
Primary School located at Betim. This was an
initiative of Rtn. Veronica Velho and Rtn Clare De Souza. The theme of the drawing
competition was “Nature”. Six children
were awarded prizes. National flags were distributed along with a drawing book,
crayons, color pencils and erasers. Children from each class sang songs in
English as well Marathi. Rtn Clare sponsored the snacks. Photographs of this drawing competition are posted on

On the 16th of August, 22 tree saplings were
planted on the Govt. School playground located next to the Carambolim
Panchayat. This event was part of a massive tree plantation drive initiated by
our District Governor Rtn Jorson Fernandes. The DG has proposed to plant totally
3200 plants all over Goa to make Goa green. This exercise is undertaken along
with the Sports Authority of Goa and the Forest Department. Eighty students
planted the saplings with care, under the supervision of President Rtn
Siddharth, Vice President Rtn Abhijit, Secretary Rtn Mahesh and the School
Principal Mr. Dharma Chodankar. Rtn Abhijit Shetye distributed sweets to 80
students and motivated them to spread the Go Green message by creating
awareness about global warming and its effect on our future and that of the

Monthly rations were handed over to
the National Association for the
Blind located at Santa Cruz on the 18th of August. Rtn Bhakti
sponsored the rations and handed them over to the NAB students. President Rtn
Siddharth and Secretary Rtn Mahesh were also present.

BONDING THROUGH ADVENTURE |
BONDING THROUGH ADVENTURE
Rtn. Abhijit organized the Annual RC Panaji Riviera Trek
on the 26th of August, a Sunday. 25 members of the Riviera family
participated in this expedition. We chartered a bus and travelled to Thane at
Valpoi, from where we trekked to The Woods, a multi activity adventure
sports centre. All members present participated in 50 metres river rope
crossing (a variant of tyrolean traverse) and 45 feet rappelling and artificial
wall climbing. A sumptuous lunch added to the fellowship.

On August
2, Rtn Nitin Desai, Charter president of RC Ponda New Generation, deftly
handled the topic Effective Clubs. Taking the example of his club, Rtn Nitin
presented a brief of projects that made a difference.
On the 9th
of August, Dr Rupa Batra educated our members on the Science of
Vaastu. Rivierites sought her advice on several issues connected to
construction and real estate.
August 23, witnessed
deliberations on Goa Vision 2035. The Guest Speaker was Rtn
Yatin Kakodkar. He outlined ways and methods of ensuring a clean, green,
and vibrant Goa.
Sachin Desai delivered an informative talk on School without Walls on August 30th. He presented an audio visual of the projects successfully undertaken by the students of Syamantak, an institution founded by him in Malvan
